How Fit Fun Bootcamps Changed Patty’s Life!

Today I am very excited and proud to share with you a story about another great transformation I have been able to witness.  Her name is Patty, and she has been coming to Madison Fit Fun Bootcamps since I created it in May, 2008.  When I first met Patty she was in pretty poor shape and struggled to complete the workouts.  Fast forward a little over a year later and 40 lbs lighter, Patty can be seen as one of the strongest bootcampers and one of the first up the massive hill!  Patty is pretty quiet, but she possesses a very strong work ethic (must be from her years of swimming), and a strong internal drive to be the best, which I am really impressed with!  I can’t get over how much younger she now looks compared to when she started, the pictures tell it all!  Here is Patty’s story in her own words.

pattyafter“I was a competitive swimmer for 15 years, and when I got to college and avoided the “Freshman 15” I thought I had a handle on my eating habits. What I’ve come to realize is that in college our swim coach would make sure that we were eating healthy whenever we traveled for meets, and because of the intense workouts we did I was able to eat a lot all day long and not gain weight. It took awhile after I graduated college and stopped training, to realize I really didn’t have a handle on my eating habits and I would have to be more conscious about what I ate.

I didn’t work out much after college since I lacked a constant routineI wanted to sleep in. Instead of joining a Masters Swim program, because they’re workouts were at 6am, I tried running and lifting weights after work, but once winter came I lost my motivation. All I wanted to do after work was sit at home and watch TV in the warmth of my apartment. Since I worked out alone I didn’t have anyone counting on me or pushing me to get off the couch, and eventually I stopped working out altogether.

Last May when Madison Fit Fun Bootcamps was getting ready to start, my sister-in-law asked me if I would join with her so we could provide moral support for one another. I said sure before I realized what time the workouts were at. When she finally told me the workouts would start at 6:30am I almost changed my mind. I’m really glad that I didn’t though. After the first 6 weeks I had lost 6 lbs and started to eat healthier.

After completely changing my eating habits and committing to a regular workout routine, I have lost almost 40 lbs since May of 2008. I am in better shape than I remember being in even while I was at the peak of my swim career. While I feel great having lost all the weight I gained after college and the fact that I am able to wear clothes that I haven’t been able to wear in over 5 years, I am most excited about the increase in energy that I have each day and how good I feel after a workout.

I can’t think of a better way to start my day or a better group of people to start it with. I want to thank everyone I work out with for their support; I definitely wouldn’t have been able to make all the progress I have without you.”

past year she has referred close to 20 clients to my programs.  She is very well deserving of this reward!  She has also lost 59 lbs and is in by far the best shape of her life after having 5 kids!  She tells me she gets asked by so many moms how she has transformed so much the past year.  There isn’t really any secret… she workouts incredibly hard, is consistent 3-4 times/week, and has completely changed her eating habits.

In order for her to receive her prize I make her do 52 pushups, but I didn’t want to make her do it by herself, so I had the help of some of the women in my 5:30 AM McFarland class to join her.

I have talked about my frustrations in previous posts about how many women believe they aren’t capable of doing even 1 pushup!  That is SO ridiculous.  Many of these women couldn’t do a single pushup when they started, but now can do 40-50.  We even had another woman in her mid 40’s do 70 perfect pushups!  When a proper training program that is supported with a balanced nutritional plan, amazing things can happen.  This isn’t the exception, it is the norm.  If you put in the hard work and follow a plan that has worked for hundreds of others, you will get the results!
