Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I can’t wait! I am heading back to MN to spend time with my family, it was last Christmas since I was back, so I am excited!
Yesterday I was on ABC giving some very practical ways that you can enjoy Thanksgiving to the fullest and still be healthy (well at least a LITTLE healthy 🙂 ) Also pay attention to the workout tips I give because these can save your body from retaining any more fat as you eat more calories than you normally would.
Do you have a healthy Thanksgiving tip that you would like to share? I would love to hear it in the comments section below!
One of the more popular services I provide is a 60 minute grocery store shopping tour in which I take people into the world of lies, deceptions, and temptations, known as the grocery store! The store is the place where billions of advertising dollars, 10,000’s of products, hundreds of chemicals, and strategically designed layout, all come together into one big place!
If eating were considered a war, the grocery store is the forefront battle ground. It is where the battle of the bulge and health and sickness is waged. I think that is why I am so passionate about teaching people how to shop, not only smart, but healthy. After someone leaves the tour, they have been empowered to make the wise choices, set a good example to their kids, and have the tools necessary to stock the fridge and pantry with wholesome foods.
Recently Kim Sveum, of ABC news asked me to join her in the store as I hit on some of the main topics at the grocery store!
Kim Sveum has been blogging about her experiences the past 5 weeks going through my program. The final results are in (you will have to wait a bit longer to see it on TV), but all I can say is WOW! You won’t believe how much she lost in just 5 weeks! Click here to read all her blog posts.
One of the most common questions I get asked is “What are some good exercises to do at work?” It makes sense that since you spend close to 9 or more hours at work, you should find some ways to stay active. I have a couple clients who have successfully started to do one minute of intense exercise every hour. They set a timer and when it goes off they do a minute of some type of bodyweight exercise.
Then at the end Angie shows a great example of a 1 arm pushup, I challenge you to give it a try as well and let me know if you can do it!
So check out this video for some great exercises you can do at work or at home.
I am always trying to be on the cutting edge when it comes to new types of workouts and new equipment. I recently purchased enough bands for all my Fit Fun Bootcamps and MamaTone, and I must say they are loving them! The best part about the bands is the ability for them to go anywhere with you. Bands also force the body to accelerate and decelerate at a higher level which will help the body adapt and will greatly decrease the risk of injuring yourself when starting or stopping a movement.
Today’s post will hit some emotional nerves with many of you. On this blog I know I focus a lot on weight loss and looking great in a bikini (because this is what many of you ask and care about). But I also try to balance that perspective out with the deeper more personal reasons why I believe it is so important to take care of yourself.
This video does a great job at showing you why I have such passion and satisfaction in what I do. This is the reason why I get up at 4:45 AM everyday to continue to fulfill my calling. Sure it is great to get a picture and letter from a mom I have worked with, on vacation wearing her bikini for the first time in 10 years, but to only focus on the surface level is only a small part of a much larger and more important picture!
I selected Trish and Maleah for this story, they are no different than any other client I meet, everyone has a story and a journey, you are about to hear theirs. I want to thank both of them for putting themselves out there in front of the camera, sharing their stories, especially right after having done a very tough workout! Your story will be shared with thousands and your message will help the lives of so many!
It is getting close to Halloween. In honor of this time of the year, I went on CBS and had one of my MamaToners, Jennifer, demonstrate some great exercises that you can do with just a pumpkin! Jennifer is a mom of two little kids, who I have been working with for the past 3.5 months. I am extremely proud of Jen’s hard work and determination. She came to MamaTone in pretty good shape already, but has taken her fitness level that very few women and more specifically moms ever get to!
One of her specialties is interval runs on the treadmill. Only try this if you are in good shape already and are comfortable on the treadmill. The treadmill should be set at 11 MPH and 11% incline. The routine is simple, 10 seconds on the treadmill, 20 seconds off the treadmill (just jump to the sides to rest), do that for 8 minutes. If you can do that you would be able to keep up with Jennifer 🙂
The point of this video is three fold:
1. Working out should be fun and can be creative to take away from workout ruts and boredom.
2. It doesn’t take a fancy gym or expensive machines to get a great workout.
3. A strong women doesn’t look bulky, but rather has a lean, toned muscular look.
If you are in the Madison area and want to do the same workouts that Jennifer does, I invite you to check out Mamatone or Fit Fun Bootcamps for a great workout and support from your trainers and fellow participants.
If you aren’t in the Madison, WI area, you are still in luck, because I have p Read More
One of the biggest things I preach to my clients is consistency. Consistency with their workouts, consistency with eating 5-6 small healthy meals, consistency drinking enough water, consistency getting enough sleep, and consistently staying active.
Kim is one mom who has done just that this summer! She has been coming 3X/week for the past 4 months to MamaTone without missing! Through this summer she has gotten into the best shape of her life (or very close to it) and is creating a very athletic body through the process!
Remember, when you say you don’t have time, you are just lying to yourself. What you should be saying is you aren’t making it a high enough priority.
For example, this past week I only sent out one blog post instead of the normal three. I could say “I didn’t have time to spend writing a blog post,” instead I say “I haven’t made it a high enough priority, because I have been working very hard at getting all my indoor Madison Fit Fun Bootcamp locations secured and ready for October 1st when we go indoors, which is a higher priority for me right now.”
I got a call from CBS wanting me to come on air 12 hours later, so I called Kim and she was happy to assist!
In this video I show 3 great exercises that will work all the major muscle groups, tone the most muscle, and burn the most fat.
We also talk a little about the interval cardio. At the end of MamaTone, sometimes I have Kim run at 8 MPH at 8% incline for 30 seconds. She then rests for 30 seconds, and does it again. She does 8-10 of those. Try it out!
Another progression that I have Kim doing from that, is 10 MPH at 10% incline for 15 seconds, then resting for 45 seconds. Again do 8-10 of those. Try it!
Of course treadmill sprinting isn’t the safest and isn’t right for everyone, but if you have good joints and feel comfortable on a treadmill you will definitely be challenged by this!
Kim’s body has been transforming each month. Her stomach has gone down about 3.5 inches and has seen very noticeable toning all over the body. Even her husband emailed me thanking me for helping her transform and create a very solid, tight, fit looking and feeling body. You know it is working when the husband is enjoying the results. 🙂
If you liked the exercises you saw in this video, you would definitely enjoy my Read More
Looking younger is a multi billion dollar business, from botox, to implants, to body lifts, to skin creams. It seems the world just doesn’t want to look or feel old.
While all of the above techniques can help, I have one that works far better than all of those! Live a life of healthy eating and consistent exercise! One of my heroes and mentors Jack LaLanne is living proof that age is just a number!
One important thing that I believe in so strongly is strength training. It becomes even more important when someone reaches their 40’s and 50’s. The average person loses half a pound of muscle each year after the age of 25. Muscle creates shape, muscle creates tone, muscle makes everything you do easier, and muscle helps keep your metabolism elevate.
I like to showcase some of my clients who are living proof of what I believe. Today, I would like to introduce you to Beth. Beth is 49 and a mother of 4 kids. She has been very faithfully attending MamaTone now for over 1 year, and even though she never had a weight issue, she has transformed her body into a lean tight body that could easily pass for a 30 year old.
Beth tells everyone who comes to MamaTone that even more important that the physical changes she has seen is the mental changes; she is able to handle the stress of 4 kids that are in their teenage years as well as having more energy to keep up with her kids.
Beth has realized that taking 45 minutes for herself a couple times a week is the most unselfish thing she can do, because she now has the body and the energy and the patience to be the best mom, wife, and friend possible. Read More
Today I had a fun time with Charlie Shortino on the NBC morning show. Sarah Carlson was off on vacation this week. I wanted to hit on a little more manly topic and decided to talk about golf… Ladies I know many of you also play golf!
I am amazed at how many golfers buy super expensive clubs to give them an extra 5 yards, when all they really need is to improve their flexibility, increase power through their hips, improve glute stabilization, and increase rotational speed and power through the core.
By doing these things, my clients have seen huge improvements in their golf game. There scores are lower, they drive the ball 30 yards further, they have energy to make it through 18 holes, and they don’t get sore backs.
So check out this video on some great golf conditioning exercises. These exercises are the same ones I use when I train moms as well. They are great for toning up the mid section and decreasing the risk of hurting their back with all the activities that are required as a mom.
Today I want to share with you some great home exercises that are designed to get the heart rate up very quickly with no equipment or in our case, a watermelon! Anne helps demonstrate the exercises. She is a great example at a 38 year old mom with two small kids, who still looks very young and has lots of energy and spring to her step. She was one of the 13 moms that I hand selected to be part of my Fit Moms For Life DVD Series.
I can’t tell you how many times I have heard “My treadmill broke, so I can’t do cardio,” or “I don’t have a treadmill at home, so I can’t get a good cardio workout in.” I wonder how many of these people truly believe they can’t get a good workout in, or if they are just saying that to make themselves feel better. I would guess the latter of the two!
Check out the video!
If you would like to find out more about a workout program that you can do at home, check out the Fit Moms For Life Program. We are trying to get as many moms check the program out, so you can try the program out for free by getting the first DVD and CD FREE!
Last week I was on NBC with the star of the first Fit Moms For Life DVD, Jody. Now for those of you who have claimed your free CD and DVD and watched Jody in action, you will notice a big difference in her from the video to her appearance on NBC. We filmed the DVD about 5 months ago, and since then Jody has lost another 10 lbs and another 1-2 sizes!
This segment Jody shows a few simple exercises that will have your body screaming to release the fat off of it. Jody even shows my highly secret move for raising and shaping the glutes… I call it the J-Lo Booty move. I actually stole this exercise from Brook Burk’s trainer, Gunnar. He said that this is her favorite exercise. And if you know who she is, it is hard to argue with her results 🙂
I hope by showing you all these different exercises, you will have total confidence in knowing that YOU can do it YOU can make a change, and YOU have all the tools necesary to transform the body and the mind!
One of the biggest problems many runners and triathletes face is injuries. One of the reason is because all their activities are in the same plane of motion, meaning they go in a straight line forward. It is super important to work the body from all different planes of direction and from different angles. Working the body from all different directions will decrease the chances of muscle imbalances and strengthen all of the small stabilizer muscles.
Another issue with many triathletes and long distance runners is that they neglect to work their core muscles (muscles in the torso area). The longer a person trains, the stronger the core needs to be to endure the pounding it is taking.
I teach a class at Supreme called Got Core and it is a challenging 30 min core class, mostly performed on the ball. We meet T/H at 5:30 pm. Click here for more details. Feel free to try the class out for free to decide if it is right for you.
Check out Madison Fit Fun Bootcamps for a total body fat burning, and athletic performance enhancing workout, that works the body in every plane of motion imaginable!
