One of my awesome Transformation Center clients, Sheri, gave me a book that I had heard a lot of buzz about and was planning on getting for myself.
The title of this book is The One Thing.
Sparked by this great read, I recently asked our Killer Kurves participants, (who have an impressive track record of losing 40-120 lbs) this question: What is the one thing you would recommend to someone starting out with the Killer Kurves program or any other new venture?
Their answer was, “just show up!”
- Show up even when it is cold outside.
- Show up even when you have sick kids.
- Show up even when you didn’t sleep well.
- Show up even when you are sore.
- Show up even when you have a nagging injury. (we can modify)
- Show up even when you feel sad, upset, stressed etc.
I thought about this “show up” response for a long time and I really do think that this is one of the best pieces of advice!
I am part of a stair climbing group that meets early in the morning a couple times a week and many times the last thing I feel like doing is pushing my body that hard so early in the morning. But, I show up each time and 100% of the time I feel better when I am done.
This “show up” advice isn’t really applicable, though, if you don’t have anywhere to show up to or anyone to show up for.
You might be the very rare person that can commit to a healthy lifestyle on your own – but I am definitely not that person. In fact, I would estimate that less than 5% of the population can show up for themselves alone.
If you are not already part of one of my programs, I hope that you have a place you can show up to and/or people in your life that you want to show up for. With a supportive community behind you, it is much more likely you will make real, lasting changes to your health and lifestyle.
