The Depressant You Are Accidentally Taking

By October 16, 2014 No Comments

I read an article yesterday that discussed the science of happiness as it relates to exercise. According to scientific research, exercise is often just as effective at boosting your mood as the most effective drugs are, but exercise comes without the negative side effects.

I’ve wrote about this aspect of exercise research before and it’s also been highlighted in the media lately. These mood boosting benefits of exercise definitely still hold true…But the article I read yesterday took a different perspective on this and it blew my mind!

Depressant“NOT exercising is like taking a depressant.”

That means that over 80% of American’s are actually taking this depressant each day…We all know alcohol is a depressant but did you ever think skipping your workouts was like taking a depressant?

You see, our bodies were meant to move – to perform manual labor, lift things, dig things, wash things, walk and run to things and so on. We have all but lost this daily, purposeful movement in our current, sit-on-our-butt society.

If you are feeling down in the dumps, overwhelmed and/or discouraged – EXERCISE!

Whenever I find myself attending my own pity party, I either go for an awesome workout or I take a nap. Sometimes I do both and it squashes the pity party almost every time.
