I’m hoping that’s not true…I’m planning to just get better with age.
At the age of 48 I’m in the best shape of my life. Let me tell you how I was able to make that happen. Growing up I was fairly thin, then when I turned 18 life got in the way. Late in my 30s I was at my highest weight ever and knew I needed to make some changes. I was overweight, unhappy and had no energy.
Early in my 40s I was able to lose 50 lbs by changing my eating habits. Most of the changes were the basic ones that Dustin recommends. I was eating more veggies & fruit, less processed foods and tracking what I ate. I also started working out . I did some strength training but the heaviest dumbbells I had were 10 lbs. My cardio consisted of walking occasionally, an elliptical machine and riding my bike 12-18 miles a week. With these changes I went from a size 18 to a size 6.
I thought that I was in pretty good shape but still did not feel as good as I wanted to. One morning I was watching the local news and they had a segment about Dustin. The exercises that the mom was demonstrating intrigued me. I thought “I could do that”…well I was very wrong. The segment was about the Fit Mom’s for Life dvds. I checked out his website and ordered the first dvd. I figured I would get that one and then cancel – WRONG! As soon as I started using the dvd I was hooked. But, I was still skeptical that I would be able to lift the heavy weights. I thought 10 lbs was heavy. I progressed pretty quickly and now I use dumbells up to 30 lbs (and 35 lb ones are on my Christmas list) That is only one of the changes I’ve seen.
The other top physical changes in me since I started doing the FMFL dvds are:
I lost an additional 20 lbs – dropped 10% bodyfat & went from a size 6 to a size 2.
Got rid of most of my pre-menopause symptons that I had been dealing with.
My ability to do the exercises in the workouts increased steadily – I can do WAY more things than I could at the start.
I went from sleeping 9 hours a night and still feeling tired to 7-8 hours a night and I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.
Some of the other top changes that I’ve experienced are:
I have a much more positive attitude. I look at the good in most everything instead of the negative.
I’ll try stuff that I never would have before – I’m not afraid of failing, I know if I try hard enough I can do anything that I want.
The dvds give me an excellent total body workout without spending a lot of time working out. That is one of the reasons that they have worked so well for me. I workout with the dvds 4-5 times a week for 45-60 minutes per night. I usually split them and do all strength training one night and cardio/core another. I add some additional ST exercises and sessions of burst cardio each night accordingly. I have now increased my FMFL library to include every dvd that there is except for the Babytone one. I love and use all of them regularly.
This summer I started doing the bootcamp on Saturday mornings. I went to the free outdoor bootcamp kickoff and fell in love with that too. I start work at 6:30 AM, so going to weekday bootcamp was not an option. Thankfully, the drop in option is available for Saturday morning bootcamp.
