You read the title right, members from all the Fit Moms For Life groups in ND , met at the FM-YMCA last night for a great class of ZUMBA! We left our dumbbells and dvds behind and sweated up Studio A and had a blast!
While it was agreed by everyone that it was a fun workout, the point behind me taking this class was to try a new, healthy activity, that gets me out of my comfort zone. I think personal growth comes from being willing to try new things and being able to laugh at yourself when you feel awkward the first few times. I won’t deny that there were times during the class when my mind told my feet to go one way, and they were still going another. I felt a little silly doing the “shimmy” in front of 70 other women (and one guy), but I bet I wasn’t the only one.
One of my last fitness magazines had an article in it called “Too fat to go to the gym”. It was about a woman who was a regular at spin class, but found herself unable to keep attending due to medical problems with her son. In the process of his healing, she ended up becoming out of shape and gained weight. She felt uncomfortable going back to the class, wondered what her friends there would think, etc. When she finally did go back, they did not judge, but welcomed her back and all was well. My point is, sometimes we miss out on just what we need when we don’t put our insecurities aside and try new things. So, get out and try something new today! Don’t listen to that little voice that tells you “I can’t”. Tell it “Yes, I can!”
