Temptation is lurking EVERYWHERE!  The ends of all the aisles in the grocery stores are full of ingredients for holiday baking.  There is Christmas candies and snack cakes stacked and ready to get thrown in to your cart in the check out lanes.  It’s so easy to feel deprived when you are trying to keep on eating clean and there is so many temptations out there.  It’s time to prepare for weak moments.   Make your shopping list and stick to it.  Check out Dustin’s Healthy Grocery Shopping List if you need ideas!

There is no need to feel deprived, though.  Celebrations do not have to be surrounded by rich, unhealthy food that leaves you feeling horrible!  You can find healthy alternatives that are just as tasty, but won’t leave you with that bogged down feeling.  Check out my healthier version of pumpkin pie !

My husband and I recently watched an episode of “Know the Cause” with Doug Kaufmann.  This episode focused on recipes that were not only delicious, but also good for you.

We tried the recipe for Baked Apples.  It was very easy and very good!

-Recipe-

4 granny smith apples, cored

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

2 TB dried cranberries

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 packet stevia

2 herbal tea bags, steeped in 1 cup of warm water (or 1 cup of no sugar added apple juice)

nutmeg and ginger

heavy cream

-Directions-

Mix the walnuts and cranberries.  Core apples, and stuff with walnut mixture.  Place apples in glass baking dish, pour tea mixture or apple juice in dish, sprinkle with cinnamon and stevia.   Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes or until apples are tender.  Cool.  Pour cream over apples and sprinkle with nutmeg and ginger.  This recipe was kid tested and enjoyed!
