I spend at least 1 hour a day (try for 3 hours) studying a variety of topics from bio-mechanics, exercise science, nutrition, business, famous people’s biographies, real estate, habits, behavioral science and so on. The one topic that I have really been getting into the past couple years is “mindset” and creating lasting behavior changes.
I don’t see my job as just giving a client a bunch of exercises and meal plans and telling them to just follow it. I see myself as a coach who will help transform their mind, because when the mind is transformed, the results they are looking for will come. If a client follows my eating plan and exercise plan, but doesn’t change how they view themselves and the thoughts that run through their head, it will only be a temporary band aide that will work for awhile, but won’t last. This is because we aren’t addressing the real problem.
Let me give you an example, not fitness related, but financial. I am sure you have all heard of all the lottery winners who get 5, 10, or 100 million dollars, only to find themselves a couple years later broke (many studies back up this phenomenon). On the opposite side of the spectrum, a couple years ago Donald Trump was close to 2 BILLION dollars in debt and on the verge of disaster, but within 5 years he go out of debt and now is worth close to 5 BILLION dollars. So what does this have to do with fitness? The lottery winners don’t have the financial blueprint for wealth. Donald Trump doesn’t have the financial blueprint for poverty. So I ask you, do you have a fitness blueprint that is for health or sickness?
This gave me goosebumps and made me teary eyed!
I recently received this email from a Fit Fun Bootcamper…
Something happened at work today I thought you would appreciate-a coworker asked how long I was going to continue going to “that class” meaning bootcamp, she was a little sarcastic in asking of the question which in some ways I guess hurt my feelings, but my answer is what I think speaks volumes for the changes you have made in my life-I told her it was a lifelong gift, nothing I intended to stop-I said it with a pride that I found a little surprising. You have taught us the importance of choices-and I choose me, and what ever it takes for a better me. I am reading a book, the first page said “don’t believe everything you think!” I am a firm believer that either I think I can, or I think I can’t, but either way I will be right-so might as well think I can, and give it a shot.
There is no way I will ever me able to share what you and your wisdom have meant for me, just know you are greatly appreciated. I am trying to live more in the “now” not the future or past-and you have given me a great now! Thanks for everything!”
Cheryl has got it! Her mind is being transformed and her old negative patterns of thinking are being replaced with more positive thoughts that will create positive results. I can’t wait to share Cheryls story with you all in a year after her physical transformation is complete!
In the upcoming weeks I am going to go very deep into this subject and really break it down to how you can transform your mind to transform your body. I can’t tell you the number of emails I receive and people I talk to, who I can tell right away won’t achieve their goals because their negative thought and mindset are preventing them from getting what they want.
This is one of the most important and one of the most exciting topics that I have ever written about.
